Kraft Heinz abandons £115bn Unilever mega-deal

Kraft Heinz has dramatically abandoned its £115bn swoop on Unilever as its billionaire owners retreated from political opposition to what would have been the biggest ever takeover of a British company.

The withdrawal came hours after it emerged that Prime Minister Theresa May had ordered officials to scrutinise the bid for the UK’s third-largest listed company, following high-level, separate talks between Number 10 and the two sides.

Amazon will create 5,000 UK jobs in 2017

Doug Gurr, UK country manager at Amazon, said the roles were being created to ensure customers can be provided with even faster product delivery as the company continues to innovate.

“We are hiring for all types of roles from flight test engineers, software engineers and corporate managers in our development centres and head office, to operations managers, supervisors, engineers, service technicians, HR roles and order fulfilment roles in our fulfilment centres,” said Gurr.

British Gas to launch Customer Loyalty Scheme

British Gas announced last night that they will release a new reward scheme. The programme will include discounts on energy or Sky entertainment packages. The scheme will be offered to millions of loyal customers and will launch in April.

Sarwjit Sambhi, British Gas managing director of UK Home, said: "We will be giving existing customers strong reasons to stay with us... This reinforces our commitment to listen to our customers and respond to their changing needs."
